Survival

After living in Minnesota for 10 months, I’ve learned that when asked the question of how long you live here, people do not answer in months or years.

They answer in winter.

“How long have you lived here?” “Oh, this will be our fourth winter, dontcha know!”

I am proud to say that we have survived our first winter in Minnesota. I’d like to say that it is officially Spring, but I’d rather not in case Mother Nature just happens to read my blog.

I know that gal loves to play mind games and we could end up with 16 inches of snow on the ground tomorrow if I’m not careful.

So for now, I’ll just say that it is WONDERFUL to see green grass, to see people out, walking around the lakes, to see clean streets that are snow and ice packed, to walk outside without three layers of clothing, snow boots (which mine are still sitting by the front door… just in case) a parka, two scarves and a hat on, to see flowers start to bloom and to talk about ‘Summer plans’.

You can’t talk about ‘Summer plans’ during the Winter because it’s just depressing, knowing that Summer is still so far away.

Once we saw sun shining, we immediately started making some summer plans, which include painting the house, the window trim and the doors and hopefully purchasing a bike for myself. One with a basket on the front.

I’d love to post a picture of how pretty our yard is getting… but it is currently raining and 45 degrees out.

You might think that that is not very Spring-like weather. But compared to snow and -10 temps…

This is DEFINITELY Spring weather!
